AFA Press Preview
Hakuro | November 28, 2008Here’s a brief summary of the press preview a day before the public opening of AFA 2008.
As accredited media, we were invited to the press conference on Friday, one day before the doors were opened to the public, setting the stage for the largest inaugural event yet in Singapore this year, with blogging communities of both NKDS and the Bonkurasu Brigade present, we were given an insight into what to expect for the public release of AFA.
As quoted from the AFA booklets we received, AFA would showcase ‘A wide array of Japanese Pop Culture related content”We were given a brief overview of the different zones and displays for AFA, the 7 different zones, namely the Anime Blockbusters Zone, Akiba Town, the Mangaka and Industry Panels, the Arena Arcade Gaming zone and a good peek at the showcases at the Planet Mech zone, as well as the exhibits encasing Figurine works from Japanese Companies such as Alter and Goodsmile and several other companies. All in all, it was for the sake of Exposure to the Singaporean Audience as well as to give those who were not so acquainted with the Animation industry, a good presentation of the many aspects of Japanese Animation as well as what it offered as both a Market and in Entertainment value.
Alongside the AFA preparation crews for the event were the passionate doujin groups , here we have artists from Collateral Damage Studios, including WaHa, Mycstea, Tragic Comedy and Xeph, who worked tirelessly the day before the Public release in order to showcase their new releases, namely their Strike Witches project for AFA. Of course other doujin groups were present, some even hailed all the way from Malaysia, their efforts and dedication to their industry must be acknowledged here.
Other noticeable faces included those from Imaginary Friends Studios and their launch of the Pepper Project, a collaborative art book featuring Pepper, a character created by Artgerm, with entries that showcased the different works of various artists who all paid homage to the Character.
But of course, the main attraction of the entire event would be the Guest list from Japan, which include the Concerts of May’n and Ichirou Mizuki for the weekend to come, as well as reknown pioneer of Studio 4 Degrees, Koji Morimoto also giving us his insights into the development of his film ‘Dimension Bomb’ and Gundam Mechanical Concept Designer Kunio Okawara who would grace us later with an introduction to the concept aspects of his Mecha works, I had comfort in knowing i was not alone in welcoming such Artistes with the entire blogging communities of both Naka-Dashi and Bonkurasu roaring and cheering for our beloved idols.

NKDS and the Bonkurasu Brigade.
Here we have NKDS blogger, Julius_Firefocht. Who definitely wasn’t disappointed with what he saw at the Press Con.
