Daicon 2009 – Day 1 Overview
Julius_Firefocht | July 12, 2009Guess who has approved of us? Mio!
The 1st day of Daicon09 is fun. Very fun. There was a karaoke contest that we attended, nice booths to buy stuff from, a cosplay competition that we attended and thoroughly appreciated(see above), and Minorin’s Q&A session. I will write the overview for Daicon Day 1 while Bj0rn will write up the article for Minorin. More after the jump.
Let us begin with the booths. They are mostly selling anime merchandise ranging from K-On to Haruhi, though there were some who had PS3 games for visitors to sample. Among so many booths, one caught my attention, and I was impressed enough to buy these from them:
Can badges!
The booth is called Dokidoki, and as you can see they offered a nice set of K-On can badges. Notice that Yuki is missing from the Haruhi set? Turned out they sold out of Yuki almost as soon as they opened shop! I grabbed the set of K-On can badges, as I thought the set looked exceptional. Really nice art as you can see.
Warhammers and Rifleman. Kudos if you got the pun.
This is a part of the Macross booth. What you see here is a very small part of the entire collection. We will put up the rest of the pictures when we have a dedicated image post, so please make do with this for now. Suffice to say that the Macross booth is a must see for all Macross fans.
Meidos!
Yes, there is a fully functional maid cafe at the event. We haven’t tried it today but I think we will tomorrow if we can find the time. Since the maids were kind enough to let us take pictures of them, I suppose we should patronize the store at least once.
The WS play area.
Here’s the WS play area, where the booth helpers are hard at work teaching newcomers to the game. The WS booth did good business, selling cards to a steady stream of customers. But the undisputed top selling booth for today is definitely this:
Comiket-style queues? Only one shop, people.
That’s right, KKnM maintained their practice of providing merchandise to long lines of fans craving for anime products. You can see the queue from here and how long it stretches. You can just make out the booth itself from the picture, so that should give you an idea of how big the KKnM booth is.
Tomorrow is the 2nd day of Daicon, so if you have not picked up what you want from KKnM, tomorrow’s your last chance to catch’em all!
On to the cosplay!
Nyan!
I could not resist this. The Mio cosplayer is too good to pass up. And I am sure most would agree that this Nyan pose is cute.
GITAH!!!
Of course Mio would not be without her good partner Yui. We went through some trouble to obtain the guitar for this picture, but the final product turned out well so it is worth it.
That is all for Day 1, at least for now. We will continue with Day 2 and provide a more detailed overview at the end of the event, once we get back to Singapore. Proceed to the next post for Bj0rn’s Minorin Q&A write-up.
This is Julius Firefocht, signing off from KL.

Actually, I should be the one thanking you for letting us take pictures of you. Thumbs up for the cosplay work. You were really in character and I would dare say that you were probably one of the best cosplayers for the event.
