Kimi ni Todoke Ep 3: Sweet Sawako is sweet.

So, as I mentioned in an earlier post, people are starting to realize just how sweet Sawako actually is. I demand a kimono scene, dammit.
The past few episodes had Sawako building her social life from the ground up, and to this day I am quite surprised at the high amount of emotional energy that I am investing into her. It has been a while since I cheered so hard for a character in any anime. And Kimi ni Todoke is supposed to be one of the “sleepers” of this season. So much for the high profile projects like Railgun and Nogizaka Haruka S2…
The enemy appears.
A new character is introduced, voiced by Aya Hirano. It is the enshrined right of every Nana fan to bare their fangs and growl menacingly whenever a character voiced by Deko appears, thanks to Aya’s transparent attempt to ride on Nana’s popularity using White Album. This is doubly so in this case, since I automatically classify as an enemy anything that threatens the growth of Sawako’s budding social life and her relationship to Kazehaya. Being voiced by Aya Hirano only gives me more excuses to pour the irrational hate on her, which is a good thing.
Soldier on, Sawako. We are all rooting for you.
This is Julius Firefocht, signing off.

anonymouse | October 25, 20091. Not every Nana fan hates Hirano Aya. (And while I’m on it, not every Aya hater is a Nana fan.) I neither like nor dislike Aya, but hate it when other Nana fans keep dissing her. It is fine to criticise her with valid details, but all these insults, even as ‘harmless’ or inside jokes, are quite uncalled for. It is quite worrying to see hate comments of Aya in various Nana-oriented or Nana fans’ blogs. As Nana fans we might think that Aya’s vocals and songs, or even her voice-acting, are no match for her, but we are the only ones to think this way. Everyone has his own preference, and is entitled to his own opinion. Of course, you are thus, also entitled to hate Aya, and to voice your opinions about her on your own blog, but please be more sensitive about it, and not put two different issues; hating Aya and liking Nana, as related.
2. I don’t know how popular White Album is, but are you sure it is Nana and Aya who are riding on the show’s success, and not the show that is riding on the fame of the two mentioned? Or might you be implying that Nana’s popularity has made this show popular, and fans watching it would also take note of Aya? (I doubt so, because that would be absurd.) Or you might just be joking, and I would apologise in advance if that is the case.
Anonymouse couldn't have said it better and I share his/her
cowboybibimbop | October 25, 2009Anonymouse couldn’t have said it better and I share his/her sentiments. All of this reckless Aya hate and “deko” name calling is really getting old and silly. I’m a Nana Mizuki fan and I’d like to believe that like-minded folks would be a little more considerate than this.
I certainly make no apologies for my personal sentiments, simply
Julius_Firefocht | October 26, 2009I certainly make no apologies for my personal sentiments, simply because I do not see the need to. My articles reflect my personal opinions, and you are of course free to disagree with them. Under no circumstances am I going to change my stance to pander to the audience, and I will continue calling Aya Hirano “Deko” whenever I want to regardless if it gets older or sillier.
So yeah, better get used to this if you are going to read my future articles that mention Deko.
To be honest, there are many fans who are both
sentinel011 | October 26, 2009To be honest, there are many fans who are both aya and nana fans. White Album is there to milk their money, mostly. Just that Aya’s boo-boos turn off a lot of anison fans, whether we like that or not. I’m not a supporter of both, and sadly, Aya’s mistakes need a long time to get over it. She’s a public figure, and she has to accept that kind of name-calling due to her mistakes. They aren’t celebrities of the otaku crowd for nothing, let’s face that fact.
A good example of someone who managed to rise from her horrendous past is Minori Chihara. Aya needs to find a formula to have the same effect as Minorin, ’nuff said.
