The best of anime in 2009, according to NKDS.

Julius_Firefocht | December 31, 2009

Its about this time of the year when this kind of post starts popping up all over the place, so I thought it would be fun to share our opinions as well. Of course, standards and tastes are subjective, so you might find our choice of anime and songs a bit… questionable. More NK-DS writers might pop in later with their own selections, so stay tuned.

Obligatory EOY 2009 Loot Post – Makino Yui~

Xak | December 27, 2009

No she’s not loot of course! But she sure is sweet >_<

Now that EOY is over, it is time for the usual run-of-the-mill dime-a-dozen loot post! Except that rather than EOY loot, this year, one of my dreams came true. Makino Yui came down for EOY 2009 and gave a concert! And it was a damn awesome concert; Makino Yui was so lively, fresh and very very cute! Especially when she’s surprised, her “eh?” was just so moe~. Her piano playing was also great, and she performed a piece that she had played for the movie “Love Letter” when she was 8 years old as a present to us fans. And she was interrupted by the EOY staff giving her a surprise early birthday cake (her birthday is actually on January 19), and we sang her a birthday song. As for the song list, she opened the concert with Euphoria, and she sang Amrita, but most of the songs she sang were new songs. And they were really good, especially Fuwa Fuwa ♪, which is to be released next year March 3! I’m going to have to get that, it’s a really totally awesome song.

And there were autograph sessions too! Which allows me to seamlessly transit from my off-topic fanboying of Makino Yui’s concert back to the topic of loot, since for this year, my EOY loot consists of signed goods. And thanks to friends (Akai, Zelfi, Julius Firefocht) helping me to queue, it isn’t just one or two signed CDs either!

Julius_Firefocht | December 25, 2009

1

And here’s a Christmas Fate to brighten up your holiday.

Its been a pretty boring Christmas for me since I am stuck at home playing GvG Next Plus, so I hope everyone is having a better time than I am. I seriously need to grab a PS3 so that I can watch the Live DiamondxFever bluray.

Aki Sora OVA overview

Julius_Firefocht | December 17, 2009

1

No NSFW screenshots in this post.

Aki Sora is an interesting creature in itself. It originated as a manga about the sexual relationship of a pair of siblings, serialized in Champion Red and classified in the seinen category. One look at the manga makes you wonder why this is not a hentai… various issues regarding sexuality are explored, including but not limited to incest, exhibitionism, lesbianism, and so on. The manga is hard-hitting stuff, with sex present in practically every single chapter. Go read the scanlations on Manga Fox and you will get what I mean.

So one would expect the animated adaptation to be filled with nothing but sex, right?

Nana Mizuki’s Live Diamond Digest clips

Julius_Firefocht | December 14, 2009

Credits to Danie for bringing this to our attention.

When it rains, it pours… I did not intend to write another post for the next few days, but as a loyal Nana fan, I HAVE to do this.

This clip is a digest of Nana’s Live Diamond concert that was held at the Dome. The digest includes clips from songs such as Eternal Blaze, DISCOTHEQUE, MARIA&JOKER and Gimmick Game.

I just gotta say that I looped the clip from MARIA&JOKER for an indecent number of times. You will know what I mean when you see it for yourself, at around 2:05 to 2:07. And the legs that Nana showed in Gimmick Game… wow. Just wow.

So, go order the Live Diamond x Fever BD or DVD if you are a Nana fan. Seriously, just go and do it. You will not regret it.

Kara no Kyoukai series overview

Julius_Firefocht | December 14, 2009

1

I just watched the 7th and last movie of the Kara no Kyoukai series, and a lot of thoughts are swirling around in my mind now. This is a good sign, as only high quality productions have that effect on me. The last time I felt this way was after Eva 2.0, so you have a rough idea of just how good Kara no Kyoukai (KnK) really is. This is like manna from heaven after the shit that was Storm Warriors.

Spoilers ahead, so be warned.

Having arrived at Tokyo this morning, someone else at my hostel told me about a cosplay event in Akibahara today. Since my objective of the day is nearby Akiba, I decided to take a look.

Lucky Star in Budokan DVD CM

Julius_Firefocht | December 7, 2009

This CM is new and its 1:21 long, for some reason. It showcases the usual suspects; Deko, Emiri Kato, Kaori Fukuhara and Aya Endo. The selling points are the fact that Minorin performs her songs in it. And the seiyuus all appear wearing their cheerleading uniform while performing Motekke! Sailor Fuku. That alone would be worth the price of admission for many, especially after they show Deko gyrating away on stage in said uniform.

Its worth a look, if only for curiosity’s sake. Tomokazu Sugita, Ono Daisuke and Yuko Goto all make guest appearances in this event, thus effectively assembling the entire Haruhi cast… not that anyone cares anyway. I am personally more interested on the identity of Animate Tenchou, who is currently unlisted in the credits. I will scream like a fanboy if they got Seki Tomokazu into the act.

The DVD will be out this Christmas, so if you liked what you saw, watch out for it then!

Nanoha having fun with Motsu from M.O.V.E: My brain imploded.

Remember we made a post about Yukari Tamura dueting with Motsu from M.O.V.E? Well, the song is called “You&Me”, and the full PV is out on Nico. My brains imploded with sheer epicness after watching it. Really, this is hands down the best and the most entertaining Yukarin PV I have ever seen! And the song itself is very catchy too!

Those two pictures up there? They are screencaps from the very same PV. No, I am not shitting you.

Here’s the Nico link to the PV. Have fun!

EDIT: Embedded the PV from Nico.

Nana-chan in Kouhaku: Feels good to know you have supported a winner.

Julius_Firefocht | December 2, 2009

Video first seen at Seiyuu3. Note Nana’s shocked reaction when told of her participation in Kouhaku.

Mizuki Nana is in Kouhaku, all hail Mizuki Nana!

The news has been all over the seiyuu fanbase for a while, and  I suspect NKDS is one of the last seiyuu-related blog to talk about Nana’s participation in Kouhaku. This is not out of laziness, we just thought that other sites like Seiyuu3 and Danie’s blog have done a very good job of providing all the coverage that needs to be given, so there is no point to us adding on to an already very well covered topic, is there?

That aside, at the risk of sounding elitist, I have to say I share Houkoholic’s sentiments about having pride in being a member of Nana-chan’s supporters, and being proud of Nana-chan’s achievements. I have been a fan of Nana since the days of the 1st Nanoha season, and yeah, it does feel good to know that your support in your idol has been validated, through her own hard work and talent. Though honestly, to me this whole Kouhaku participation thing is just icing on the cake. As long as Nana continues singing and voicing, I will continue to support her. Nana-chan’s participation in Kouhaku is merely the first step to our plans for the Nanafication of the world!

I think I got a bit too carried away. This is Julius Firefocht, signing off.
