Not long after Cutie Honey: The Live comes another live action adaptation by Bandai Visual.

The Japanese production company Bandai Visual is adapting the 2006 television anime series Yomigaeru Sora – RESCUE WINGS - and Rescue Wings manga as a live-action film. Masaaki Tezuka, the director best known for the Godzilla Against MechaGodzilla and Sengoku Jieitai 1549 films, will oversee the project. The original anime’s story centers on a fighter pilot trainee named Kazuhiro Uchida who gets reassigned to a helicopter search-and-rescue unit, much to his (initial) dismay. By contrast, the live-action film will revolve around a female pilot named Haruka Kawashima; the model and actress Yūko Takayama (Cosplay Yūrei Guren Onna) will play the lead role.

Tomokazu Miura (ALWAYS Sanchoume no Yuuhi), Yoshino Kimura (Shota no Sushi), Shuya Isaka, and Dai Watanabe will also star in the film. The Japanese Ministry of Defense, Air Self-Defence Force, and Maritime Self-Defense Force are participating in the project, so real UH-60J helicopters, F-15 fighters, and escort vessels will appear in the film. Filming began on July 7, and the movie will open in Japan in December 2009.

I am as excited as hell over this announcement. I really enjoyed the TV series, an under rated piece of work by JC Staff and Bandai Visual. The emotions portrayed in the anime were simply staggering and I will be looking forward to this live action adaptation. It seems that they will be using the main character, who is female, from the manga as the lead,

Hope both Aki Misato and JAM Project will sing for the movie as they did for the anime.

Yuko Takayama. But she’s only 16 and she’ll play a pilot? Can’t wait to see her in a nomex flightsuit ~~~ Will be as good as the one I have of Mamiko Noto, I imagine.

Great sucess, I found a scan of teh Noto in the flight suit. I can imagine her being all hot and sweaty underneath all those layers of hot, unbreathable Nomex.
