A good job description talks about what an employee has to achieve on a day-to-day basis. A good job advertisement on the other hand emphasizes why an individual should apply for the job. Remember that when you post a job online you have plenty of place to write a job description that helps you stand out from the crowd and almost sell a job seeker on why your job is worth applying to. You want to prompt the seeker to research your company, fill out an application or submit their resume. The key is that the candidate takes action. The advertisement will list a job description’s requirements, tasks, skills, and the like, but most ads stop there or they tack on a bit of information about the company job posting.
Good ads inspire the right people to apply to the job by integrating employer branding and talking about not only the job but the type of company they are applying to. For example, if a central message about your job posting is that you want people who can work independently, you’ll emphasize that with phrases like “works well with little to no supervision,” “we seek professionals who are self starters,” or “enjoy working independently within a team environment.”
When composing a good written advertisement you want to stick to a common format. Much like writing a well written business letter. Start with a catchy title or a fact based title. “Nurse Practitioner – Great Opportunity for growth” Provide a brief job statement of what type of job seeker you are looking to hire. State the job description using keywords that are germane to the position. The more relevant key words that you use, the better the chances are that the right candidates will apply to your job. Next state the job duties and requirements. Licensing or educational requirements. Lastly talk about your facility. If you have been chosen as one of the best places to work, state that. If you have certain benefits that separate your facility from others, state them.
Lastly, remember that if you want to hire the best talent, you need to create a clear picture of why the job seeker should want to work for you. The job seeker should be able to know who you are, what you are looking for and why they want to work for you.
